Eaters Tropical Fish Tank: Leopard Cactus Pleco – Leopard cactus pleco’s are normally
peaceful but will become territorial as they grow. They prefer similar to the tank
to create hiding places or subdued lighting and add bog wood. It is a waste

As juveniles the fins of the
leopard-cactus pleco will have a yellowish colouration but as they develop the
yellow will disappear and also the finnage will take about the exact same camo
pattern as the main body. These fish need plenty of open space at the underside
of the aquarium planted set ups are not ideal. It is far better to work with
sand and add pieces of wood or pvc piping to provide hiding places and nothing
extra.
A few colour types
exist, all these are different from L24 and L25 nonetheless. Some fish are more
camel coloured compared to dark brown base colour.
Diet
This beautifully
patterned Loricarid belongs to the genus of carnivorous pleco's called
Pseudacanthicus or Cactus Pleco's. One glance at its mouth illustrates this well:
instead of a sucker mouth that is true, it has a mouth than is appropriate for
grasping and holding food things. Its teeth are few in number, but powerful and
large: perfect for rasping meat along with splitting open snails and little
crustaceans.
All this ensures that
its diet should mostly be made up of meaty foods, such as for instance shrimp,
krill, mussels, blood worms, mosquito larvae and fish meat (fillets).
Compatibility
Generally peaceful but
territorial from a young age. If placed with other large nocturnal fish, some
big specimens are aggressively territorial and might cause problems.
Maintenance
Not hard to preserve
underneath the proper states; we strongly recommend keeping it in a tank made
to model a flowing river with a substrate -sized stone, sand, fine gravel, plus
some water worn boulders.
This may be farther
furnished with driftwood branches, terracotta pipes, plant pots, etc., ordered
to form a system of nooks, crannies, and shaded areas, consequently providing
broken lines of sight.
Suggested Tankmates
The temptation with
large tough Loricariids is to keep them with large, tough other fish for
example Oscars or alternative brutish characters. This actually works fairly
well with plecos that are largely vegetarian or most omnivorous.
Pseudacanthicus but, like all large plecos, produce enormous amounts of waste
nonetheless are enormous sloppy carnivores so that as such would require
enormous filtration to house alongside non - catfish" equals". All
sizes of barbs work astonishingly well.
Nature
Just enjoy many other
pleco species relatively peaceful if it's enough room to stake out a territory,
which will yet be defended fiercely if intruded by other fish. Towards it is
similar or own sort appearing pleco's, this species can be very aggressive, and
if cramped for space also against other bottom dwellers.
Procreation
As of yet there aren't
any reports of Pseudacanthicus leopardus reproduction in the aquarium. They
truly are known to be cave spawners in the wild which entails them digging
caves in the river banks out to create nests for their young. The male of the
species will display parental care that is full with the female being chased
away once the eggs fertilised and have been laid.
